Training Process of Indian Territorial Army





Training in Infantry TA is carried out on Urban and provincial systems.

Urban systems of training : Training is carried out on weekends and holidays. Four hours training is counted as one day.

Recruit Training : 32 days in the first year only including a camp of not less than 4 days if the trainee volunteers with the written consent of his employer, if any.

Annual Training : A minimum of 30 days extendible up to a maximum of 60 days including a camp for 14 days.

Post Commission Training: All Officers are required to undergo 10 weeks of Post commission Training within two years of their commissioning.

Voluntary Training to gain additional military training, provided the trainee Volunteers with the written consent of the employer, if any.

Provincial systems of training

Recruit Training : For a continuous period of 30 days in the first year only.

Annual Training : For a continuous period of two calendar months in the first and subsequent years.

Post commission Training: 10 weeks post commission training is compulsory within two years of commissioning.

Voluntary Training to gain additional military training, provided the trainee volunteers with the written consent of his employer, if any.

Departmental TA



Recruit Training: This is carried out for a continuous period of 30 days in the first year in a camp. No recruit training is there for Medical and Nursing Officers of General Hospital (TA).

Annual Training: In the first and subsequent years annual training is carried out for a continuous period of 30 days in a camp. For Officers of General Hospital (TA), this is carried out on weekends, without a camp, four hours training being counted as one day.

Post Commission Training: 30 days post commission training within two years of commissioning is compulsory for all Departmental TA Officers, except Medical Officers of Railway (TA) units and Officers of General Hospitals (TA).

Voluntary Training : Departmental TA personnel who volunteer with the specific consent of their departments can be attached for voluntary training.

The syllabus/ Pattern for TA(PIB) written Exam modified


The syllabus/ Pattern for PIB written Examination has been modified as under.

changes will be implemented with effect from the next PIB (tentatively in August 2016) onwards. 












Time: Maximum time for each paper is 02 hrs and will be conducted in two sessions from 1000hrs to 1200hrs and 1400hrs to 1600hrs.

Type of Exam: Objective (OMR Answer Sheet will be used).

Qualifying Marks: The candidates will have to score minimum 40% marks in each paper separately and have an overall average of 50% to qualify.



Penalty for Wrong Answers: There will be penalty imposed for wrong answers marked by a candidate as under:- (i) There will be four possible answers to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, half of the mark assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty. (ii) If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happens to be correct. Penalty will be imposed as above. (iii) There will be no penalty for questions not attempted.

Recruitment rally in 105 Infantry Battalion of Territorial Army Rajputana Rifles for five states from 26 mar 2016


105 Infantry Battalion of Territorial Army Rajputana Rifles will be organizing a recruitment
 rally for the category of Soldier General Duty,  Soldier Clerk  and Soldier Chef.

Eligible States: Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana  and Chandigarh


Venue : at Delhi Cantt

Date & Time : 26 Mar 2016 to 02 Apr 2016 from  0600 hours onwards

The candidates belonging to the state of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi  and Chandigarh  will be screened on 26 Mar 2016

The candidates belonging to the states of Haryana will be screened on 28 & 29 Mar 2016

whereas for Soldier Clerk and Chef category candidates belonging to all five states will be screened on 27 Mar 2016.

Age limit : 18 to 42 years

Physical Requirement : weight minimum 50 kgs,  height minimum 160 cms and the chest 77 cms with expansion 5 cms.

Educational qualification : for Soldier General Duty  category should be Matriculation with minimum 45% marks in aggregate and 33% in each subject or having qualification 10+2 or above, for chef category 10th simple pass and for Soldier Clerk category 10+2 pass with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 40% marks in each subject.
Candidate with proficiency in computer and typing will be given additional weightage.

Recruitment Rally for 159 Infantry Battalion Territorial Army (Home & Hearth) DOGRA from 15 March to 25 March 2016


159 Infantry Battalion Territorial Army (Home & Hearth) DOGRA will be organising a Recruitment Rally for Soldier (General Duty), Clerk (Staff Duty) and Tradesman.

Venue : at Sports Stadium, Doda ,J&k


Date & Time : Eligible candidates volunteering to join the Territorial Army may report for screening from 0500 hours till 1000 hours from 15 March to 25 March 2016

A written test, medical and interview for the candidates screened in the rally will be held at Battalion Headquarters location from 20 March to 25 March 2016.
Candidates willing to appear for the rally should be present at the venue as per given schedule.

Additional weightage for proficiency in computer and typing.

Physical Test.
It will include 1 Mile Run, Pull Ups, Balance walk on wooden beam and nine feet ditch. Intelligence test will be conducted in written objective type format.
Candidates who qualify in the physical, intelligence test and medical examination will be interviewed by the board of officers.


Documents. 
Candidates are required to bring the following certificates in original alongwith two sets of Photostat copy of the certificate duly attested by a Gazetted Officer :-

  • Birth certificate issued by registrar of birth and death OR 10th class board certificate showing date of birth.
  • Nativity/State Subject/Domicile certificate issued by Tehsildar/SDM/DM/DC.
  • Caste/tribe certificate/Community certificate issued by Tehsildar/SDM/DM.
  • Character Certificate (issued within last six months) duly signed by Sarpanch/SHO/Principal of School only.
  • Mark Sheet for 8th class, 10th class and 12th class as applicable.
  • Married/unmarried certificate from Sarpanch/Numbardar.
  • Photographs . 20 copies of latest colour photographs. Computer print photographs will not be accepted.
  • Relationship certificate issued by Record Office concerned only OR Father's Discharge Book for Sons of Serviceman/Ex-Servicemen/War Widow.
  • Any other additional qualification certificates, if available.
  • Police Verification Certificate (issued within last six months).
  • No objection certificate from the employer, if the individual is employed.

Candidates belonging to the states of Punjab,Himachal Pradesh and J&K  will be screened on 07 Mar 2016, the candidates belonging to the states of Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh  will be screened on 08 Mar 2016  and candidates appeaning for clerks and tradesmen will be screened on 09 Mar 2016.


Candidates should be between 18 to 42 yrs of age, weight not less than 50 Kgs, minimum chest measurement between 77 – 82 cms  and height should not be less than 160 cms for enrolment in the Territorial Army. The candidates appearing as Soldiers General Duty should have passed matric examination with a minimum 45% marks in aggregate and 33 % in each subject. Candidates appearing for Clerk (Staff Duty) should be 10+2  Intermediate exam passed in any stream with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and atleast 40% marks in each subject & persons having proficiency in typing and operating a computer will be given additional weightage. Persons with tattoos visible in physical training dress will not be held eligible.

Educational Qualification : Educational qualification for General duty candidates is matriculation/SSC with 45% minimum pass marks and 33% in each subject or pass/qualified in higher class (i.e 12th or above). For Soldier Tradesmen candidates should pass 10th (excluding Safaiwala and Masalchi is 8th pass) while for Soldier Clerk 10+2 pass from any stream with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 40% marks in each subject individual with proficiency in computer and typing will be given additional weightage.

Physical Requirement : height 160 cms, chest 77-82 cms and minimum weight should be 50 kgs.

The 110 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) in will conduct a recruitment rally




The 110 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Madras, Redfields, Coimbatore will conduct recruitment for soldiers for enlisting in Territorial Army.

Eligible States : Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Goa, Daman & Diu, Lakshadweep and Puducherry

Age Limit: 18-42

Venue:  PRS Ground, Coimbatore

Date and Time : March-1 to March 5

Physical test will be conducted only on March 1. On subsequent days, medical test and personal interview will be conducted for candidates who pass in the physical test.

Personnel seeking enrolment should be present at PRS Ground, Coimbatore at 6 a.m. on March 1 with PT shorts, shoes and original civil education certificates along with six passport size photographs.


Minimum Physical standard: at least 160 cm in height and weight at least 50 kg.

Interested candidates should be present at the venue at 6 a.m. in half shorts and shoes sportswear, with original certificates and three passport size photographs. Minimum qualification for soldier general duty is a pass in 10{+t}{+h}standard with 45 per cent and a pass in 10{+t}{+h}standard for soldier tradesman.

Priority will be for employed persons, self employed persons, NCC cadets, those who are trained in shooting, sports persons and children of ex-servicemen. Persons employed in government and private firms should produce a “No Objection Certificate” from their employers.
