PIB Experience shared by Shiv Kumar

Hi Friends,

I am done with my PIB and I'm happy to share my experience with whole process.

The whole process I went through, I am describing below.

1. Submission of forms:The notice for recruitment of Officers in TA is published in the Employment News Paper as well as on website of Army. One may also go through the http://taofficers.blogspot.in/ website on regular basis for updates on Territorial Army vacancies. The forms could be downloaded and filled in the prescribed format and sent to the relevant Command.

2. Written Test (2 hrs): Call for written test is sent to the candidates via mail or post and it is scheduled after around two-three months of publication of vacancies. The written test consists of the following:

a. English (Section A-40 Marks): comprising one or two comprehension passages of ten to twenty marks in total and an essay on any one of the topic out of given five options for around twenty marks.

b. General (Section B-60 Marks): comprising general aptitude, general awareness, mathematics, logical reasoning etc.

NOTE: One has to get minimum of 40% in each section and minimum of 50% overall to qualify for the next stage, the PIB. Result is usually declared in 15-20 days from the date of written exam.

3. PIB (Preliminary Interview Board): This is done as a two days process.

a. Document Verification (Day 1): There is a list of documents that need to be taken in original and atleast one attested copy for submission. The list of documents is sent by mail or the post in the confirmation of passing the written test.

A form with basic details such as name, father’s name, current job background, monthly salary, educational background, co-curricular activities, NCC ‘C’ Certificate etc. are to be filled in and submitted with the documents. (We were told to fill five copies of the form as we had five member board).

Also, a form that is submitted to SSB was got filled by all the candidates who came for document verification.

NOTE: There are few things that are compulsorily needed to qualify to appear before the Interview Board. NOC from the employer/Private firms/DC etc., PAN Card, Medical Fitness issued by Competent Medical Authority. It is mandatory that all the forms are filled in using Blue Ball Pens only.

b. Interview Day (Day 2): The interview process starts around nine in the morning. Candidates are taken in batch of 15 near the Board Room and made to sit according to their roll number. Each person is called in and the interview goes for around 5-7 minutes.

The board which I faced had the following Officers:

a.     One Major General

b.    One Brigadier

c.     Two Colonels

d.    One Psychologist

The questions to almost all the candidates started with self-introduction and family background, education and current job etc. Since, I am from Andamans, I was asked questions in and around Andaman and Nicobar Islands. I was asked the following questions:

a. Do you know the significance of Coco Islands?

Ans: I replied about the significance with full confidence and the Officer seemed quite satisfied with my reply.

b. Why is Nagpur named as Nagpur? (I have studied from Nagpur. The Officer mistook me as a resident of Nagpur.)

Ans: I was not sure of the answer. I said, I am sorry sir, I am not sure of the answer. Then the Officer asked me if I am from Nagpur, to which the other Officer who asked me about the Coco Island replied to his query that I am from Andamans. But, I put forward what I knew about Nagpur. Like, it’s the heart of the nation (Zero Mile) and also, the orange city of the Country.

c.  What do you know about Shompens and Ongis?

Ans: I told they are both tribals of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and I am not much aware of

Shompens. But, I recalled my visit to Ongis’ Island during 1999 so I told about the Ongis and their lifestyle they follow.

d. Are you into Government Job?

Ans: Yes sir, I work as an Accountant in the Pay and Accounts Department of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration.

Once they seemed satisfied or done with their questionnaires, they thanked me for coming. I wished them back and left the room.

NOTE: I would like to add that others were asked current affairs too. Like, why sudden rise in onion prices, hike in petrol/diesel price, 1965 war, Kargil war and other Defence operations that India had, Indo-Pak/Bhutan/Chinese/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka/Nepal relationships, North Eastern states and related issues etc. So, it is advisable to all who want to attend PIB that they should know their hometown/place they studied/stayed very well and basic current affairs and history of TA and army operations etc.

We were made to sit back till interview of each person from our batch was over and then relieved us all.

It took around fifteen days for the result of PIB interview to be declared.

Thanks to Shiv Kumar for sharing his PIB experience with us. We wish his great success in SSB.

Thanks for sharing my experience on your Blog. http://taofficers.blogspot.in/ is doing really wonderful job. I, being from Port Blair, Andaman have issues with internet connectivity and it takes so much stress and pain to locate info on Territorial Army on web. But your site has given me ideas and guidance that helped me sail through the two important stages to Being an Officer. All info at one place.

Thank you very much Smruti Sir, for such a wonderful job.

    Best regards,

    Shiv Kumar.
