Territorial Army gives opportunity for Railwaymen to undergo military training for one month every year. In the event of a national emergency trained Railwaymen maybe called upon to meet needs of

2. Internal security.
3. To keep Rail services uninterrupted during war and in designated areas.
4. To help Railway administration during Railway strikes and in natural calamities like flood etc.

• Period on Territorial Army training is counted as duty.

Trainees for all courses should be medically fit and physically sound so as to pursue practical training exercises which includes extensive outdoor jobs.

Training period will be treted as duty and trainees are eligible for TA/DA.

Recruitment Rally at Zakhama,Kohima from March 29

A recruitment rally is being held at Local Ground, Zakhama, Kohima district from March 29 to 31 for enrollment of male candidates into the 164 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (Home and Hearth) NAGA. 
The recruitment is only for the Naga Tribal residents of Peren and Kohima. There are forty-seven vacancies for Soldier General Duty, one vacancy for House Keeper and one vacancy for Clerk (Staff Duty).

The eligibility conditions for soldier General duty (Sol GD) and House Keeper categories are as follows: Should have passed minimum 8th class. Age from 18 to 42 yrs i.e. born not before 28 Mar 1972 and not after 28 Mar 1996 (both days inclusive) and candidates should be employed in Govt/Semi Govt/Pvt Sector or self-employed. Height minimum 152 cm, Weight minimum 50 kgs (+2 kg) and Chest minimum 77 cms with expansion of 5 cms.

The eligibility conditions for Soldier Clerk General Duties (Clk GD) are as follows :Should have passed minimum 10+2 / Intermediate Exam in any stream (Arts, Commerce, Science) passed with English and Maths/Accounts/Book Keeping as compulsory subjects in 10th or 12th standards having min 50% marks in the aggregate. Age from 18 to 42 yrs i.e. born not before 28 Mar 1972 and not after 28 Mar 1996 (both days inclusive) and candidates should be employed in Govt/Semi Govt/Pvt Sector or self employed. Height minimum 152 cm, Weight minimum 50 kgs (+2 kg) and Chest minimum 77 cms with expansion of 5 cms.

The screening of candidates will commence daily at 06:00 AM from 29 Mar 2014 to 31 Mar 2014 and the candidates are advised to report at the rally site before 6 AM. Recruitment in territorial army from 23 mar to 26 at Sitabuldi Fort, Nagpur

118 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) GRENADIERS, Fort Sitabuldi, Nagpur, will carry out recruitment for Soldier (General Duty), Soldier Clerk (SD) and Tradesman Hair Dresser (Barber) from 23 Mar 2014 to 26 Mar 2014 at Sitabuldi Fort, Nagpur for personnel belonging to the States of Andhra Pradesh,Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan,Goa and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Lakshadeep and Pondicherry.

Candidates should be present at Sitabuldi Fort,Nagpur for registration from 0530 hrs to 1700 hrs on 23 Mar 2014.Candidates should possess two identical photographs with all original documents of educational qualification, sports participation, job experience, trade work certificate or driving license held if any. They should also possess one set of attested photocopies of the above mention certificate. Only registered candidates will be allowed to participate/compete in recruitment rally. sFress / Unregistered candidates will not be allowed to participate for the said recruitment rally.

CRITERIA FOR ENROLLMENT : Being a part time service, candidates should be gainfully employed in civil / government / PSU / self employed and should be between the age of 18 to 42 yrs on the date of recruitment, height 160 Cms and above, Chest 77 Cms with minimum expansion of 5 Cms and above, Weight 50 Kgs and above, Character good,No objection Certificate from the employer, if the individual is employed and Education qualification for GD Soldier is 10th / Equivalent pass with 45 % marks in aggregate and 33 % in each subject will be mandatory. Candidates having higher qualifications for general duty (10+2) and above need not have 45 % marks in matric.

Dispensation – Personnel hailing from border districts of Rajasthan (Jaisalmer and Barmer district, Shergarh, Osian and Phalodi Tehsils of Jodhpur district) and Gujarat (Ropar and Lakhpat Tehsil of Kutch district) the minimum qualification will be class 10th pass. For Clerk candidate should have passed 10+2/intermediate exam from any stream (Arts, Commerce, Science with English) with minimum 40% marks in each subject and 50% marks in aggrecate. Candidate must have proficiency in Computer and typing of minimum 30 words per minute. For Tradesman Hair Dresser (Barber) should be 10th simple pass or above. Housekeeper (Safaiwala) should be 8th Pass.

As this is a part time service ex-servicemen looking for employment can also get re-enrolled in the Territorial Army upto the age of 42 years. Candidates should be in possession of Original education Certificates alongwith attested Photo copy, 15 coloured passport size photographs (not attested, All Photographs should be of same nature different type/nature of photographs will not be accepted), Domicile certificate and a photo should be affixed on residential certificate duly attested by DM/Sub Divisional Officer/DC, Character 
Certificate signed by SHO of Police Station / Sarpanch / Police Patil / Principal of School / College (Certificate should not be more than six months old on date of recruitment rally), Ration Card / Voter Identity Card, NCC/ Computer/ Sports certificate (District/state/national) if any,Unmarried Certificate (only for candidates between 18 to 21 years only).

Physical fitness Test to include 1.6 Kms run, beams, crossing of 9’ ditch and balance. Selected candidates will undergo medical test. Permanent Body Tatoos are only permitted on inner face of forearms i.e., from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (Dorsal) side of hand. Permanent body tatoos on any other part of the body is not acceptable and candidate will eb barred from further screening.

P Manivannan joins Territorial Army

Former Besom MD and senior IAS officer P Manivannan slips into a new role as a lieutenant in the Territorial Army.
Manivannan, now with the Karnataka State Highway Development Project (KSHDP),
was recently commissioned into the 106 Infantry Battalion.
"He is among the foremost serving IAS officer to be recently commissioned," said the ministry of defence.

Manivannan meet Major General AK Singh, General Officer Commanding, Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area as part of his commissioning.

Army Reserves vs The Regular Army

Army reserves generally comprises of volunteer citizens who stay in their regular jobs and lifestyle but 
form a part of the nations army. They may be called in for active duty as and when required. The regular army is the main armed force of the country comprising of personnel who serve full time and maintain a military readiness at all times.

Having an army reserve pool is very advantageous for the government as the reserves would normally enjoy the pay and the benefits only during their active deployment. Secondly there is always a pool of personnel with basic training and their deployment can be carried out at very short notice.The training levels of the reserves, however, would vary from country to country. Some countries only offer a very basic training to the reserves meaning that they would only be able to serve at the very lowest level, however, some keep the reserves training uptodate with their regular army counterparts thereby meaning that they would have a pool available for all the levels of the army.

Regular Army officers have a full-time job. This means that they remain engaged in military work throughout their employment period and do not have the opportunity to acquire a civilian job. Their active duty provides for several considerations in the remuneration package, which is inclusive of many bonuses and training allowances. Standard Army officers go through daily drills to keep fit, and it is common for them to reside within the Army barracks.
