130 Ecological Task Force of Territorial Army created a record by planting more than One Lakh saplings in a time span of just 19 minutes!

It was a moment of national pride when 130 Ecological Task Force of Territorial Army created a record by planting more than One Lakh saplings in a time span of just 19 minutes.

On June 5th, World Environment Day, more than a lakh saplings were planted around the Almora and Pithoragarh districts of the Kumaon region by the 130 Inf Bn (TA) Eco Kumaon, which is an Ecological battalion dedicated to protect the ecology through afforestation.

A day before the project, Col Nandu Kumar BN, the Commanding Officer of the 130 Ecological Task Force said, “Such a noble cause can only be accomplished if it is supported by one and all in the society. We intend to involve the social fabric of Pithoragarh so that they develop their concern towards nature and the ecological system. However, it has been realized that it is even more important to conceptualize the theme of environment protection in the minds of young children and encourage them to associate themselves towards making the ‘Earth’ green by balancing its ecology system. This battalion has taken measures to engage children in mass plantation in the past on several occasions.”

The area in question is approximately about 100 hectares and includes the mountainous forest land. About 15 different varieties of plants were selected for the plantation. The event was be carried out at Iggarah Devi village near Gurna Mandir on World Environment Day.

The battalion had already planted more than 1.6 crore plants over an area of 15000 Acres of forest land set a new record this World Environment Day. The ambitious project ensured them a place in the Limca Book of Records.
